2019 is going to be a great year for action. Our list starts with Alita: Battle Angel. This movie stars Rosa Salazar as a hybrid (human/bot) navigating the world post-apocalypse. The movie also features stars the caliber of Jennifer Connelly, Lana Condor, Christoph Waltz, and Mahershala Ali and is co-written and produced by none other than James Cameron, who planned to direct it too. Ultimately, Robert Rodriguez took the directorship over.

Triple Frontier

Like the above choice, this movie has been “under construction” for quite a while. Talk was that it would be Kathryn Bigelow’s next big project (after The Hurt Locker). Eventually, J.C. Chandor helmed it. The film is about a few former Special Forces staff who make plans to organize a heist in a dangerous South American border zone. The cast features actors of the ranks of Ben Affleck, who played quite a role in attracting interest to the film.

J.C. Chandor is a highly flexible filmmaker, so we are looking forward to seeing how he’ll develop in the thriller-action genre.

Cold Pursuit

Liam Neeson stars in this highly anticipated action flick, which is actually based on an action-comedy called In Order of Disappearance that hails all the way from snowy Norway. The Mad Father is playing a maniacal snowplow driver. Liam plays Colorado resident Nels Coxman, who’s been awarded “Citizen of the Year”. Soon thereafter, he suffers a tragedy (predictably) – his son is killed in what looks like a random attack, although his death is officially ruled a drug overdose. Of course, Liam is unable to take this at face value and begins hunting down the people he believes are responsible. OK, it sounds very “Taken”-ish, but if the formula works or, as they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Hellboy

No list of the best action films to watch in 2019 would be complete without Hellboy. This time, Neil Marshall takes over from del Toro and we can’t wait to see his reboot of the character. The horn-headed superhero is rated R this time. Yet, this shouldn’t worry you – the kind, charismatic David Harbour is playing the superhero this time.
